Introduction of the Department

The department was established in the year 2004 with an aim of developing human resources in the area of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The department offers under graduate (UG) and post graduate (PG) courses along with research programmes. It has experienced and qualified faculty (about 40) in various areas such as communications, VLSI, Signal processing, embedded systems and computer engineering. There are about 8 laboratories catering to the development of experiments and projects in the aforementioned

The department offers under graduate (UG) course in Electrical Engineering and Masters Course in Power Electronics. It has experienced and qualified faculty in various areas such as power systems, power electronics, signal processing, industrial drives, energy systems etc. There are well equipped laboratories catering to the development of experiments and projects. The department has state of art computing facilities and softwares to keep the students in pace with the technology. Department’s association ’ELITE’ ( Electrical Insight in Technical Endeavour) has been set up to conduct various extracurricular and co-curricular activities to develop overall personality of the students.

The faculty has contributed in research publishing about 40 papers in journals/conferences. The other important features of the department are individual counseling of students for academic performance, additional coaching classes for important subjects for lower semesters, soft skill development classes, scientific and student centered teaching-learning process etc.

The institute and all Departments are well connected through a campus network with an Internet access at data rate of 4 Mbps. All the Computing Systems in the laboratories are connected to campus network.

Department library

Department of EEE includes around 350 book titles and 2067 book volumes in the main Library. Department has access to online journals and transactions through IEEE online subscriptions. Apart from on-line subscription, department also subscribes hard copies of some of the National and International Journals/ Magazines like Embedded Systems Programming, Embedded for You etc. Digital library facility is available in main library to facilitate information access from Internet & Intranet.

Teaching learning process

  • Teaching for the entire semester for a subject is planned meticulously and implemented using lesson plan.
  • The internal assessment and conduction of Co-curricular and extracurricular activities are planned and scheduled for the semester in advance. This is communicated to faculty and students as 'Calendar of Events' which helps them to plan their studies and other activities properly.
  • Teaching aids include black board, OHP, Power point presentation using LCD.
  • Regular Tutorial classes are used to discuss and solve numerical problems and assist them to apply knowledge to real-time problems.
  • Subject-wise assignments and study guides are given to students to solve and enrich their knowledge.
  • Extra classes are conducted in the identified subjects for weak students.
  • For value addition, other than university- prescribed syllabus, student training programmes are conducted within the campus.
  • Regular seminars are conducted in most of the subjects prescribed apart from classroom teaching which improves their presentation skills & also better understanding of the subject.
  • Teaching is made student centric by getting regular (every fortnight) feedback from the students.
  • Faculty undergoes self appraisal in order to improve teaching skills and upgrade in subject knowledge.

Many students have expressed that there is a need for some guidance in activities such as paper preparation, project demo and research. Some of them feel that if proper guidance is provided many would come forward to participate in these activities. Also, the training needs analysis documents from the faculty indicate that there is a desire among faculty to upgrade their qualifications by carrying out research works. It is felt that there is an opportunity for the department to utilize student’s potential for mutual benefit by involving students in the research activities. This document attempts to address these issues and explains how the objectives can be met.

Project Club: Students normally keep away from activities that are enforced upon them. Hence, a platform which gives them ample opportunity to expose their talents (that helps faculty in doing ground work such as literature survey, simulation, building of experimental kit etc for research work) and where there is no pressure of deadline is essential.


  • Students identify mini projects themselves or with guidance from faculty and demonstrate at the end of each semester.
  • Faculty engaged in Ph.D work can assign simulation/simple hardware tasks.
  • Those who are in the process of identifying research problems can assign literature survey tasks.

Activities of Project club:

  • Students approach faculty members for mini projects or identify projects on their own and expend few minutes regularly.
  • Discuss and share ideas once a month.
  • Faculty put up the list of works for students and monitor.
  • Faculty members interact with student members and learn new applications.
  • Conduct project open day to display their work (project or paper presentation) to motivate and cultivate research activities among students.

Department supports training and placement cell of Institute to conduct programmes on latest technologies, Personality Development and training for competitive exams. Students of the department are placed in reputed companies such as , Infosys Technologies, KPTCL,PRDC,Wipro,Mphasis, Tech Mahindra, N.R. switch Radio services, Scorpos Corp, Assurgent Technology Solution etc.

Higher studies

Students are encouraged to pursue Master’s and Research Programmes. In this direction, students are advised to take up GATE, GRE and TOFEL exams.

  • Tell them that we can change the course of life just by altering our mind set.

    • Provide useful tips and strategies to plan for studies (ask students to maintain the attached student diary and bring it for inspection)
    • Consult the subject teacher and obtain further information.
    • Check the student’s notes.
    • Ask for written explanation from students for their performance.
    • Provide some tips on tackling a difficult subject.
    • Motivate students to develop positive attitudes.
    • Share your experience of dealing with emotional problems.
    • Impress the students that academic performance alone should not be the judging factor and one should not perceive themselves as losers when the performance/result is not satisfactory / unexpected.
    • Have one group discussion in a semester with all the mentees and allow them to interact with each other. This should help them bond with each other and thus develop a sense of responsibility.
    • In case you come across any student having a problem, never tell that the problem is too trivial, instead appreciate the student for discussing the issue. Tell that you are very pleased with the student for choosing to fight rather than running away from the problem.
    • If the case demands urgent attention, report the matter to the concerned HOD who will discuss with the principal for suitable remedial measures.

Department association

The ‘ELITE’ (Electrical Insight in Technical Endeavour) is the association of the students of electrical & electronics engineering department whose main objective is to build up appropriate moral & ethical skills, promote holistic development of students through various physical, mental, social, cultural & personal enrichment programmes. The association organizes different types of extra curricular activities and co-curricular activities like invited talks by people from industry and academic institutions.

  • Seminar on ‘Software Industry – An Overview’ was delivered by Mr.Vijayananda Gurudev Symphony Technologies, Bangalore on 13th Sept 2008.
  • Conducted a Group Discussion on ‘Reservation for Women’ on 29th Dec, 2009.
  • Conducted an inter department quiz competition for the college students.
  • Seminar on ‘Embedded Systems’ was delivered by Dr.Loganathan, ISM Bangalore on 3rd April, 2009.
  • An ‘Energy Awareness Program’ was organized on 28th Feb, 2009. In this program a collage debate competition were organized.
