Introduction of the Department

The department was established in the year 2010 with an aim of developing human resources in the area of Civil Engineering. The department offers under graduate (UG) & Post Graduate (PG) Programmes. There are about 8 laboratories catering to the development of Civil Engineering catering for experiments and Research. The department faculties are involved in organizing workshops/conferences for constant up gradation of skills and knowledge.

The faculties have contributed in research publishing papers in journals/conferences. The other important features of the department are: department library, individual counseling of students for academic performance, additional coaching classes for important subjects, theme based mini projects at lower semesters, soft skill development classes, scientific and student centered teaching-learning process and providing.


About Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is the broadest of the engineering fields. Civil engineering focuses on the infrastructure of the world which include Water works, Sewers, Dams, Power Plants, Transmission Towers/Lines, Railroads, Highways, Bridges, Tunnels, Irrigation Canals, River Navigation, Shipping Canals, Traffic Control, Mass Transit, Airport Runways, Terminals, Industrial Plant Buildings, Skyscrapers, etc. Among the important subdivisions of the field are Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Soils and Foundation Engineering, Geodetic Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, and Coastal and Ocean Engineering. Civil Engineers build the world’s infrastructure. In doing so, they quietly shape the history of nations around the world. Most people can not imagine life without the many contributions of civil engineers to the public’s health, safety and standard of living. Only by exploring civil engineering’s influence in shaping the world we know today, can we creatively envision the progress of our tomorrows.


There is no one typical career path for civil engineers. Most of the people who graduate with civil engineering degrees start with jobs that require a low level of responsibility, and as the new engineers prove their competence, they are trusted with tasks that have larger consequences and require a higher level of responsibility. However, within each branch of civil engineering career path options vary. In some fields and firms, entry-level engineers are put to work primarily monitoring construction in the field, serving as the "eyes and ears" of senior design engineers; while in other areas, entry-level engineers perform the more routine tasks of analysis or design and interpretation. Experienced engineers generally do more complex analysis or design work, or management of more complex design projects, or management of other engineers, or into specialized consulting, including forensic engineering.

Facilities and Infrastructure

The department is constantly modernizing the infrastructure and laboratory facilities. The department is equipped with class rooms, laboratory halls, staff rooms, departmental library etc. The department is also equipped with modern teaching aids like LCD’s, OHP, smart boards etc.

Department of Civil includes around 347 book titles in the Department Library. Department has access to online journals and transactions through subscriptions. Apart from on-line subscription, also subscribes hard copies of some of the national and international Journals/Magazines like Indian Concrete Journal, Indian highways Journal, Indian Geological Society Journal etc and Digital library facility is available in main library to facilitate information access from Internet & Intranet.

Campus Network

The Institute and Department are well connected through a Campus Network and have an access to Internet at data rate of 32 Mbps. All the Systems in the Laboratories and department are connected to campus network.

Teaching & Learning

  • Improve student learning that result in lowering student failure rates by having tutorial classes which helps the students to graduate on time & decrease the student dropout.
  • The students are provided with opportunities for acquiring skills beyond classroom like soft skills, computer skills like CAD,E-Tabs and organising training programmes from the industry like SAI CAD, Lawrens & Mayo There by producing students with the desired skills & knowledge that help the employers.
  • Moulding of character is done as a part of teaching in the form of encouraging students to participate in panel discussion, paper presentation quizes within the college and at different institution etc.
  • Encouraging the students to form association & organise expert talks, educational tours , visit to industries which will help the students to acquire leadership qualities & managerial skills
  • Student’s participation throughout their learning is encouraged by asking questions as well encouraging students to ask questions, this is done not only in class but also in the institution level where open discussion is organised by the principal & then student problem are carefully listened & the areas which need further improvement are noted & improvements are implemented.
